Zoom evaluation?

Ashley

After over a year or the wait list, and 2 years since my initial concerns began, my beautiful Iris Jane FINALLY got the call for her official autism evaluation.

I am in no way worried about her having autism, nor have I or will I ever see it as a disability. She is the absolute light of my life, and all of her differences and delays are what makes her my baby girl.

My only reason for moving forward with an official diagnosis (I say official because her OT gave us an "unofficial" diagnosis based on her assessment,) is so that she can have better opportunities for therapies, and the specialized help in school that I know she will need. Having that piece of paper confirming that she is autistic will place her in our city's autism center for ABA, speech, and OT, whereas right now all that they can offer her is outpatient therapies with people who normally work with older adults who are not on the spectrum. She is beyond delayed in speech, and her motor skills are nowhere near where they should be. So, she NEEDS this!

My question: has anyone has an eval since the pandemic? Due to COVID, her appointment will be via zoom. Iris is a high energy sensory seeker, and is complete uncooperative when at home..especially if I try to get her to sit still or even video call family. How will they get an accurate diagnosis by watching her on video? If she doesn't cooperate, is that just it, we reschedule? Sooo many questions. If anyone has has a zoom evaluation, could you offer some tips and insight so that I know what to expect?

Mama's stressing this.
