If you’re a quarter of a race, can you still identify as that race?

I heard you go by your fathers seed, and my father is mixed (Afrolatino) and my mom is Latina.

Yes, but I say what I mostly am first. I’m half black so I say that first because I’m the most of that. I’ll say that first then maybe the smaller parts of what I am. I wouldn’t identify as just one of my smaller parts. I just think that’s kinda wrong. Idk why.

I don’t know. I live in Canada so I just identify myself as Canadian. My ancestry is English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish, French, German, Portuguese, and Mohawk. I’m a direct descendant of Chaucer’s sister (he wrote The Canterbury Tales), and have an ancestor who is illegitimately linked to the French royal family. I just don’t place that much weight on my ancestral heritage - I guess the question is do you feel connected to that aspect of your heritage or not?

The Afro Latino and Latino communities actually have some blurred lines. In any case, you can identify as what you want!  If your dad is Afro Latino you are probably more than 25% of African descent anyways. I did a DNA test and it’s fun to see the map summary. I’m 50% European Jewish from my dad and the rest is British, Irish etc. I was raised Jewish and identify as Jewish ethnically. My future kids will likely be 25% Jewish but can identify how they want
