Date night at the movies?

I'm friends with this guy.and we are not in a relationship like BF or gf.but we do sleep together at some point.he said he wasn't ready for a relationship I understand that he just got out from a previous relationship and I am thinking of asking him to go with me to the movies?.we do talk about going out sometimes because the last time he set up a date night with me and he didn't showed up.should I ask him out or just wait for him to be a men and ask me out??
