Johnny vs John

If we have a boy... We want John but felt it was a bit basic so we are thinking actual name on birth certificate Johnny. Middle name Matthew (after my spouse) and last name Doctor. Johnny Doctor. Sounds good right? I feel like it’s just a bit less formal than John Matthew Doctor. He can always shorten to John when he grows up if he prefers that right? What do you guys think about the name Johnny? Johnny Depp, Johnny Cash... not the best role models but hey they are hella talented!
