Questions about 1 year old
Hi guys, today I ended up taking custody of my 1 year old nephew. CPS removed him from the home due to unsafe conditions and lack of proper nutrition. So I have watched a lot of kids but have never been responsible for one 24/7 (for an undetermined amount of time) and I’m a little stressed. Please don’t judge my questions I just want to make sure I’m doing stuff right for him.
1) since it was short notice, we bought him a pack and play to sleep in tonight. Is it okay for him to continue to use it as a bed or should we get a crib?
2) he is still using a bottle and I can’t get him to use the sippy cup we got, any suggestions
3) he has terrible diaper rash, we picked up some a and d ointment, any suggestions on how to soothe it quickly
4) I was already told that because he hasn’t been to the doctor in a while that I will need to make an appointment ASAP (I am calling first thing in the morning) he is behind on shots so he will be getting some. Should I also make a dentist appointment. He has quite a few teeth, but I didn’t know if he was too young to go.
Thanks to anyone who took the time to read and help. I really appreciate it!
Just wanted to say thanks for all the great advice! I will continue to offer sippy cups with meals but I’m not going to stress about it. When I brushed his teeth last night and this morning he did okay but I’m pretty sure that was a new experience for him. They gave me a doctor appointment for Monday so I’ll ask them about the dentist and fluoride treatment (I don’t see anything concerning). Today we are going to pick up a high chair and a convertible crib that my best was originally going to sell but she’s gifting it to us.
Also I never knew that convertible car seats costed so much lol but that was one thing CPS stressed to me because he was still in an infant carrier and he was past the height guidelines, so my husband went this morning and got one so he wouldn’t be riding in an unsafe situation while we continue to gather what we need today.
