Nuna vs Graco or Chicco

Question

I’m 11 weeks and I know I have a little time to make a final decision, but I can’t help feeling guilty that I want the Nuna Mixx next and pipa lite xl travel system that’s $1100.  I know that the safety ratings on this is top notch.  I just can’t get over thinking that if I put this on my registry I’m taking away from other things being purchased.  I’ve had two different friends give advice on it.  One has lost a son at 4 months due to a freak accident so with her current son everything is highly rated for safety etc.  I have another one that has two daughters and is like a Graco or Chicco is just fine.  That’s too much money to spend on a travel system.  It’s taken us quite some time to conceive so I’m like only the most highly rated safety and the best for my child, but I do have guilt about the cost.  I also do a lot of driving so I always have that in the back of my mind.  What has been your experience?

This is the seat I love. The safety ratings are great. Easy to install. Light weight. Remember an infant seat isn’t something you use for a long time. For a convertible seat I recommend the Britax one4life clicktight.

I say go with what you want. If you truly want the nuna mix then get it. We went with the uppababy Cruz and minu (travel). It took us a long time to conceive and we honestly don't know if we will be able to have another. We went with everything top of the line. Do we get comments from family about how much we spend on our kid? Yes. It's our money and our little one. I haven't had a family member on either side understand what we have gone through to have our baby girl and thats fine. I truly never wish that on anyone. I rather buy something great quality once then repurchase or spend more money buy what I originally wanted and regretting getting something I was settling for.

We have the car seat and a different brand of stroller (colugo) and I agree splurge on the car seat. It felt so easy and safe putting our newborn in the car and driving back from the hospital. Make sure you have tons of products of all price ranges on your registry but if you are willing to buy it yourself if no one gets it then just do what you want, don’t worry about other people being able to buy you gifts.

We loved our Mixx+ Pipa. Nuna uses safe (or no) fire retardants, which was one of the main selling points for me. The safety ratings are great and the load leg gives a little extra protection. Also, the fact that it uses isofix for installation automatically makes it safer than most car seats because there’s virtually no way to install it improperly and it’s soooo easy to reinstall it in another car if necessary. 
If you decide not to splurge on Nuna I would at least try to stick to another brand that uses fewer chemicals than Graco or Chicco (Chicco is actually one of the worst options for toxic chemicals), so Clek, Maxi Cosi, Britax, or Uppababy are all good options.

I prefer buying quality products. The pipa feels high quality and sleek and it’s SO light! I also like the option to buy less toxic and non toxic products. I prefer wool over chemical fire retardants. Graco is just cheap and all around crappy, chicco feels nicer, but both are loaded with unnecessary chemicals. Go with the nicer stuff if you can afford it. The ease of use alone is worth it.

I have the nuna lite car seat. I love it. Highly recommend. 
However do not recommend the nuna mixx. My sister and friend both have this stroller, it is big heavy and bulky. Also super flimsy compared to the stroller I have. For that price tag I would expect something more stable and less wobbly.
The nuna car seats would work on any stroller that uses maxi cosi adaptors. I have a mamas and papas stroller that I use with the nuna lite carseat

I had this in a different color/pattern. Did it do all the things I needed, yes. Did it seem safe, yes very. Would I buy it again, no. For various reasons. 
We switched to a convertible car seat pretty early on because I could barely lift the carrier. It made me think it was kind of a waste of money 🤷🏻‍♀️ I kept it for grandmas car, but it doesn’t get used very often.
I personally would’ve put more thought into the stroller part (the buckle on this one is not great) since I use that more often and will use well after my girl out grows the carrier. I really only bought this set up because I was on an extreme time crunch. (I found out I was pregnant in July, put on strict bedrest at the end of September, had c-section first week in October.)

I don’t have the nuna but if I could go back I definitely would’ve spent the money on the travel system. I got the cheaper one from amazon and I just hate it. I have 3 strollers now and it’s annoying. It’s definitely worth it and you can resell it in the future for a good amount.
