how to keep children (toddlers) interested in toys

i have a 1 year old and he has plenty of toys but it just seems like he loses interest. then he gets a new one enjoys it for a day or two and loses interest again. he goes days without touching a certain toy then will play with it for a while, but not excitedly or anything. so i don’t know if “rotating” his toys would work.

he looks to me or other people for entertainment. and when i’m not able to give it to him he’ll resort to negative attention. doing things he shouldn’t do, touching things he shouldn’t touch. instead of playing with toys. he couldn’t care less about them. how do i encourage him to self entertain, stay interested in toys and not seek out negative attention? tia.
