Codiene while pregnant?

I have a very bad cough. So i went to a regular doctor today and was given penicillin and cough medicine with codiene? Has anyone actually drank that while pregnant? I really don't want to take it!

I use tylenol with codeine for migraines. It's main risk is new born withdrawal symptoms. It's not been shown to harm baby in the womb. It's considered safer than nsaids.

I just had to have meds after fighting a cold for 2 weeks and having it turn into a sever case of sinusitis I was given augmentain and hycodan with is hydrocodone cough syrup I took it all is fine

Penicillin no, but codeine yes. I didn't take it all the time, only when I REALLY needed it.

Coughing won't hurt the baby, but if you really really can't sleep, codeine might help. Did your pharmacist say anything about it? It looks to be a pregnancy C med, so risk to the baby can't be ruled out. 
I had a horrible cough for a lot of my pregnancy, but it's been allergies, so I sympathize with not being able to sleep through the night because of it.
I got by with cough drops and homemade vaporub. Not judging, but I'd certainly look for all of the other solutions I could. 
Also, probably get into a really good probitic to combat the havoc your pencillin will enact on your guts :)
I really really recommend BioKult brand probitic, it's really robust. It helped me avoid a yeast infection when I had to do antibiotics with at UTI.

I think taking it is probably better than having an awful cough!! I had pneumonia last year but I didn't know so I went a month before I finally went to urgent care and they gave me codeine cough syrup. It was heaven compared to the pain I was in. Coughing so much can't be good for the baby so if regular cough medicine doesn't cut it, take the codeine! Just tell them you're pregnant next time for more accurate advice.
