So I’m a military dependent and have TRICARE. I recently found out I was pregnant after moving to a new area. I only had a primary care as I hadn’t been able to get referrals to an ob/gyn yet as the doctor was booked. So I go see my primary care doctor and he wrote a referral to the ob/gyn. Well when they received the referral they called me to set up an appointment the lady said they couldn’t schedule it because it wasn’t authorized by TRICARE . Well the next day the called again it was a different lady and she said that the other woman was just lazy because the referral had to go through authorization through TRICARE before they could receive it. I explained I was very disappointed in this because I am high risk due to having had three previous miscarriages and I have had type two diabetes since I was a kid. ( I know it’s rare to be diagnosed with type two as a child but it was due to a medication that has been known to be bad for diabetics and people with the gene that causes diabetes which I had) the lady said she apologized for the inconvenience and said she would look into it since it caused me stress which I’ve already been advised to avoid. I am angry with the first receptionist she didn’t even give her name the only reason I was sure she actually worked for that doctors office is because the notice of a referral received was automated and I pressed a number to go ahead and schedule. My parents and boyfriend are all outraged at this. This is one of many problems with the healthcare system they have receptionists with no medical experience and people with just a high school diploma and very little training do receptionist jobs. I know this as I recently applied for a similar position at the main hospital and I’m at least a trained EMT but the list of requirements are practically none just have to be 18 with a high school diploma or GED. I trust the doctors and nurses but if we don’t get better receptionists you can’t even get an appointment made.
