Is your kid talking?

Question

Just asking bc mine still doesn’t really say words.  Lots of different sounds tho.  She only recently (like this weekend) called me mama and it was over FaceTime when I was at work.  Dr said to call in 2-3 months if she didn’t improve, so it’s been 3 months, so I guess I’m making that phone call 😔. I know she’s very intelligent, it just makes me feel like a bad mom and that I did something wrong.

I think speaking to your doctor is the right thing to do. Of course kids develop at their own speed but this way you can make sure that there isn’t a medical reason for it, like difficulty hearing for example. Don’t feel bad about yourself. I have no doubt that your kid is smart and you’re doing your best. But it’s also OK to get help to figure things out. All parents need help with something at some point.

We are experiencing something similar. My lo also has like 10-20 words which she does not use often. We purchased Speech Sisters online course, since we could not go to a speech therapy currently. We saw some progress in the beginning but she has lost interest again. I know I have to spend quality time with her for some progress. I am trying to accept every child has different learning pace and she will speak eventually.

Don't stress. You did nothing wrong. Every child develops at their own pace and sometimes all we need is someone to give us the tools/strategies to use to help our little ones improve/make progress.
 We had our daughter evaluated for speech and language at the end of July. She started with her speech pathologist in August. She has made a lot of progress...from 4 words at 18 months up to around 30-35 words now (although they aren't always clear).

So these types of polls are the worst because every child develops on their own pace! There’s a Instagram fitness/influencer that has a 2 year old son who understands everything they say but he isnt talking as much either. She put him in speech therapy to get ahead of it and he’s been going to daycare recently and he’s starting to talk more! Do what you think is best for her and see what happens . Kids surprise you that’s for sure.
