Why is race determined by skin color?

I’ve been curious about this for a while. There are thousands of different tribes of white skinned people, black skinned people, and brown skinned people. Why is it culturally thought that people of one particular skin tone is a different race then someone else of a different skin tone?

It shouldn’t be and it would be inaccurate if people did so. I have an Indian friend who is darker than me and I am black. So it would be foolish to determine someone’s race by their skin color.

I think you should look at why the concept of race was invented in the first place. The modern concept of race came about as a product of European powers needing to justify subjugation of Africans. It’s all based on phenotypical traits I guess

I think it’s by traits and heritage. My grandmother is Italian and she is darker than my half black boyfriend, she is still white and he is still black. Skin color is so diverse

Idk if this would answer ur question but like most african or African Americans are black most Europeans or Americans  are white so if ur European or American you would be called white because most of the white people are that race
