Metronidazole 500mg pregnancy!?

Amarillys/22🧚🏻‍♀️

I was in the hospital yesterday and the doctor on duty for labor and delivery prescribed this because of BV and a topical treatment for a yeast infection but I have to take 500mg twice daily for the metro!???!!’ THATS SO MUCH THATS ALREADY 1000mg! I’m 31 weeks and will it pose any harms to my body whatsoever or to my baby please I need to know I hate taking any type of pill over 200mg

I took 500g of metronidazole twice a day (for 7 days) for BV when I was 18 weeks pregnant. I had no side effects. I’m now 25 weeks, the BV is gone & baby is doing great!

That’s a pretty arbitrary number to place on a pill.. why do you care if it’s over 200mg? A tylenol is 500. Yet it is perfectly safe during pregnancy. The size of the pill means nothing. You aren’t taking 1000mg. Pills have fillers in them to make up the bulk of the pill which dictate how long until they dissolve in your stomach. Relax. Your doctor is unlikely to prescribe something that will hurt your baby. If he did, he wouldn’t be a doctor for very long and he would be under lawsuits and board reviews.

I had bv in my last pregnancy it’s just an over build up of bacteria they gave me medicine on the day I was going to deliver but I had it through iv but metronidazole isn’t bad for the baby and you only take it for a little while

Told me* it was the medicine giving me super bad acid reflux and trapped gas everywhere and I never felt that in my life before this is why I hate taking medication because of the side effects but I’m still taking it so my baby can be safer without any infections
