Prenatal massage?

I was thinking about going to get a prenatal massage. I’ve had so much pain in my back and serious aching. It was recommended to me several times by friends and family from the beginning. I have been wanting to, but with COVID I am a little terrified. The cases have been flying up lately and I get anxious. Has anyone gone? Did you feel safe? If you have been before (even without COVID) can you share your experience or things to ask for? Would you recommend it or is it worth the money?

I would suggest seeing a chiropractor instead. A massage seems like it would only offer temporary relief where an adjustment from a chiropractor will fix alignment issues that could be causing the pain. My chiropractor does a massage before too, just the knotted problem areas nothing like a full massage. Your insurance may cover chiropractor visits too.

I spoke with my midwife and found a dula/massage therapist who will come to my home.  Wears a mask the whole time.  Comes with her own massage table and pillows which she wipes down before use.  I have a 90 minute massage every two weeks and it’s the only thing keeping me sane.  I’m so glad I’ve found such a resource that wasn’t available for my first child.  She said many great therapists are now doing home visits due to covid and her business is booming.  Ask your hospital!

I went every week in my third trimester. I’m booking for this weekend now. My hips kill me and they are able to dig into my glutes which is just what i need.

I’m 32 W, 1 D today.  I’ve been going for prenatal massages once a month since 12 W.  I just recently went again, and it had only been 2 W since my last.  I would highly recommend going, and let them know how far along you are.  I recently checked with my doctor if it’s still okay I continue, and he said absolutely.  So as long as you haven’t had any concerns throughout your pregnancy, otherwise ask your doctor first.  I’ve went to three different locations, and all are taking great measures with Covid, and I feel it’s very sterile and safe!  
Before falling pregnant, I injured myself and had terrible sciatic nerve pain (I was doing Physio and massage to help it).  After falling pregnant, my sciatic was still bugging me so my first couple Tx I had the masseuse focus on that and my neck and shoulders area.  My sciatic has thankfully been good, so I just ask for her to focus on my neck/shoulder (always have tension there), and a general full body to help with circulation.  It’s extremely relaxing, and worth the money.  
I look up reviews for the place ahead of time, and if all are good, I go ahead and book prenatal. You’ll get a registered masseuse that knows what they’re doing.  They always say, let me know if I need more or less pressure, so just be honest if you feel they’re going to hard on you.  One place had me lay on my side for the massage, and another had pregnancy pillow where there’s an area for your tummy, both positions were comfy and relaxing for me.  
So I vote you go, and enjoy and relax!!

Last pregnancy I was able to go to a chiropractor and get a prenatal massage (20 minutes ish) at each appointment. Definitely have some pain this time around that I’m trying to manage, but most chiropractors I know of are also anti-vaccine so I’m pretty disinterested in heading there with cold/flu season and Covid. Similarly too nervous to just go get a massage, so I’m trying to stretch more regularly and switch up positions more - go for a short walk if I’ve been sitting, take a seated break if I’ve been moving a lot.

I had one in the second trimester and it made me feel amazing! The pillow that you get to lay on in order to be tummy down was worth it enough to take the pressure off my back. I would check with your due date—some places won’t massage you in the third trimester for fear of inducing labor. I had to wear a mask during the appointment but it was worth the relaxation to me.

Yes! Massages are my favorite thing, especially while pregnant. I just had one 2 weeks ago and it was wonderful.

I’ve had back and pelvic pain, so I’ve been getting a prenatal massage every other week plus weekly chiropractic and pelvic PT. The massages are the longest appointments so they feel slightly less safe in that you’re in a closed off room. But the place that I go (Massage Envy) has air cleaners in every room, and the therapists wear masks and gloves (the gloves are only a little weird). For me, the relief I get is worth the risk.
