Why is some reasons why females doesn’t dilate before labor?

This is my 5th pregnancy and I’m 38 weeks and I’m still not dilated on my own all I want to do is to go into labor on my own. I want to see how it feels instead of being induced!!!￼

They don't check dilation in the UK until you are in labour 🤷🏼‍♀️ its completely unnecessary. BUT I'm pregnant with my 3rd and and with both my previous I've gone to hospital after hours of contractions and only been 1cm. You aren't actually expected to dilate before labour

The contractions of labor are what cause you to dilate. Dilation before labor means nothing in regards to going into labor. If you wait long enough you will begin labor on your own. Fear and anxiety can keep you from dilating and after Labor begins, fear can keep you from progressing. I highly recommend you read the book Ina May’s guide to Childbirth this week.
