Reusable nappies

Question

I've been thinking about using reusable nappies once baby is born and have mostly convinced hubby on the idea that it'll be more cost effective in the long run.
I've been looking around though and found they're quite expensive.
Does anyone have any recommendations on a decent cheaper kind of reusable nappy?

Get waterproof diaper covers and prefold cloth diapers. Thirsties makes them, but also osocozies. This combination is very affordable.  What you're seeing that's very expensive are the all-in-one diapers. Where the whole thing is similar to a disposable diaper but gets washed. The prefold is a special "towel" consisting of multiple layers of soft gauzy cotton. You use it with a cover. The prefolds are cheap and you can use each cover a few times without washing if poop doesn't get on it. I've used this combo for 2 years and I love it. Get a couple covers in newborn size, plus a set of newborn prefolds. You won't be in those for too long because baby will quickly start fitting into size 1. I got 10 size one covers, a whole bunch of size one prefolds, and 5 size 2 covers, a set of size 2 prefolds. You'll basically need the most of size 1 stuff. My 2 year old is still in size 1 during the day. (She's 50th percentile) And in size 2 for night time because she sleeps 12 hours and those get soaked. But those are big, we'll never have need of them for day time. Of course each kid is different, but this set up should work well for most. Very affordable and saves a ton of money. I have enough diapers that I only wash once a week. Big savings. Good luck! I love cloth. Hope you will too.

For nb phase I loved 
Green mountain diaper prefolds pined on with thirsties duo wrap covers on top. Prefolds and covers are very cost effective for this age when they go though so many diapers a day. 
Once my son got bigger (and went less times a day) we switched to Noras Nursery pocket diapers and I stuff them with all the prefolds we bought in the beginning. This is what we’re still doing and he’s 15months. 
 I highly recommend all of these brands . You can buy all on Amazon except for the prefolds.

I used these but instead of the inserts they come with, I use OsoCozy Size 1 prefolds! The cotton prefolds hold a lot more pee than the microfiber inserts. Even the bamboo insert ones have microfiber on the inside. They leak more than the cotton. Overall, it’s a big investment upfront, but it will save you money in the long run!
