Fetal echocardiogram?

Question

I’ll be having a fetal echo test when I’m 20 weeks because my baby is supposedly high risk for heart defects since I did IVF. 
Has anyone had one before? What do they do for the test? How long does it take? Any information about your experience is welcome and appreciated!

We had one at 22 weeks because i have a congenital heart defect that could be passed to the baby. It was a long ultrasound probably about 40 minutes. Not painful or invasive at all. We went to a pediatric cardiologist but some people go to maternal-fetal specialist. The office we went to the doctor read the ultrasound right away so we only had to wait about 15 minutes to find out everything was good with our baby. Some insurances require a pre-authorization for the ECHO so ask about that when you make the appointment

I’ve never heard of needing one because of IVF unless you did PCOS testing and there was a concern.  Both my pregnancies are IVF and I’ve never had one.  Our eldest has a heart condition but it wasn’t diagnosed until he was 1 and they’re not concerned this baby will have it and haven’t said anything about a heart test.

I had it done at 22 weeks for a few reasons one was I have mitral valve regurgitation. The test is just a regular ultrasound but they just focus on the heart at different angles. I had it at a fetal medicine and a pediatric doctor sat in with me the whole time to explain everything on the screen which was super helpful. It was about 40-45 mins long but baby girls heart was just fine
