How much milk per pumping session?

So I’m ebf and baby is 1 month old yesterday. She’s definitely getting enough milk and plenty of wet/messy diapers so I’m not too concerned on that front. But I’m trying to build a small freezer stash by pumping between feeds when I have the time. I have a dual Medela pump and try to pump 1-2 hours after a feed. Between both breasts I get around 2.5-4oz total each session. I pump for twenty minutes. Is that a normal amount? It’s rare that I get 4oz it’s usually closer to 3. Should I be pumping more than 20 minutes?

I pump only once a day to get baby used to taking a bottle and to build a little emergency stash. So as to not get stressed, I focus on the time at the pump - not the amount of BM. I just say, whatever I get in 20 mins is what I get and then move on with the day knowing I gave it my best. Stress is bad for supply anyways!

That is a very normal amount to get! Anywhere between 2-4oz combined between both breasts is the norm if.yku are pumping to replace a feed. If you are  pumping after a feed, it's normal to get .5-2 oz combined between both breasts. Breastfed babies drink about 1-1.5 oz of bm a day (24-32 oz a day) with bottles never being bigger than 3-4 oz. That amount never increases throughout the first year because your breast milk changes based on what your baby needs at the time (fat content, water content, etc.) Breast milk and feeding is so fascinating!

Yes that is a very good amount! Keep up the good work! Like another commenter said, if you're also feeding at the breast, anything you pump is extra and as little as .5oz is normal. So if you're getting 2-4oz extra, that's a lot in my book! It doesn't sound like you need to pump more than 20 min 👍

Early morning pump sessions are always the best for me. Supposedly you have more milk in the morning... If my daughter only takes one side I’ll pump the other.. which is usually 3am and 6am she will take only one side. I’m starting to think it’s because I have more milk in the early morning. I pump 10 minutes to replace a feed on one side and get 3-4oz. Everyone is different snd will produce different amounts of breastmilk. The important part is your able to breastfeed and provide your baby breastmilk.

I wouldnt pump more than that! I pump anywhere between 1-4 oz in a session between feedings. Pretty rare on the 4oz as well. I think that is plenty and you are doing well!
