cloth diapering?

im currently pregnant with my first baby ❤️❤️ im wondering if anyone cloth diapers? any advice & opinions welcome. its an idea we’ve been throwing back & forth & id love to hear other moms experiences with it ❤️

We cloth diaper and love it! We used disposables when she was a newborn, but have been doing cloth from 2 months, and she’s 17 months now. I’m 10weeks with our second and we’ll be doing cloth with that one too. 
We use pockets (where you stuff inserts in the pocket of the diaper). If I had to do it all over, I think I would have preferred fitteds or prefolds + covers, BUT pockets are easiest for daycare, grandparents and anyone who might be helping with baby. They also have the most variety for cute patterns. 
The hardest parts of doing cloth are getting your wash routine right (depends on your water hardness, machine and detergent), and figuring out the right absorbency for your baby. There is definitely some trial and error. 
Fave things about cloth:
-not sending thousands of disposables to sit in a landfill for 500 years.
-their fluffy butts are so cute and better for babies hips.
-so much money saved!
-NO BLOWOUTS
-no extra stress during covid - we have all the diapers we need!
-same diapers from 10-35lbs and for multiple kids.
-no chemicals so better for baby’s skin and 
less smell.
My top lessons learned:
-you need to use cloth safe diaper cream
-get a diaper sprayer! Do it!
-hemp fitteds + wool covers + whatever additional absorbency you need is the best nighttime solution. Disana wool covers are my fave. 
-it doesn’t have to be all or nothing, you can ease into cloth or take a break if you need to.
-you need to buy pants with enough space for the fluff butt. Maxaloons are awesome for this, and in the summer we just do leg warmers.
-for pockets, inserts are more important than the brand of your diapers. After the first few months, you’ll need a fast absorber (microfiber/cotton/charcoal bamboo-which is basically MF) on top of a heavy absorber (hemp/bamboo).

I plan to use cloth diapers. I have two friends that did it and said they were glad they did. I hear many people, including my family, tell me I’m crazy and I will give up, blah blah blah. But I’ve put a lot of research into it and my husband and I are both very committed to it. Not only is it great for the environment, but the amount of money we will save in the end will be wonderful. I’m currently pregnant with my rainbow baby and we plan to have at least 3 kids. So it would add up a lot with disposable diapers. Cloth diapers we can reuse for all of our babies!! I prefer the shells that snap so they grow with the baby. And using charcoal bamboo cloth liners. We do intend to use cloth wipes at home as well. But for outings to make it easier, we will use natural baby wipes that are more eco friendly and disposable liners. Instead of a diaper genie, we will use a trash can with the foot pedal, a large wet bag goes in that to collect spoiled diapers, liners and wipes. Once full, run a load in the washer. We will also be getting a spray attachment for our toilet to spray off any poops. I recommend a pail or bucket in the nursery, change diaper, if needs to be sprayed, drop liner into bucket, change baby and place baby in a safe place, then take bucket to bathroom to spray off before putting in the wet bag.

We did for our first and will again! We loved it. It’s not gross. Don’t let anyone talk you out of it. We mostly used Grovia and I washed a load every third day. Even our 17 yr old nanny liked it!

I have 2 in cloth, a 2yo and a 6mo. We prefer prefolds and covers over pockets or all-in-ones. Find a good wash routine. I do 1 cold cycle, hot with detergent, and another cold rinse.

I’m going to try elimination communication and use cloth nappies as a complementary part of that. I just can’t see myself using so many disposable diapers for environmental reasons. Plus so much cheaper!
