Inconsiderate Professor ? !

Question

Okay so I am a student in college and being that I am pregnant and have terrible morning sickness to where days I can't even manage walking across campus to a class to not even be able to concentrate. I went today to speak to my Professor about making up work and he told me to show proof that I was sick, and I did have the hospital note that said I was Pregnant about two weeks before and clearly stated that I was having vomit, nausea, headaches, abdominal pain etc. Am I wrong for feeling like this professor was inconsiderate to say I need a doctors not that shows I was in the hospital everyday I missed class ? Not only that he looked at me like I was insane which I found very inappropriate. I felt like that's like asking a cancer patient to get a doctors note everyday they wake up and feel sick. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to compare pregnancy to cancer it's two totally different medical situation but it provides the same concept.  I do plan to email this professor and let him know that it was inappropriate and inconsiderate. Should I not ? Can I get in trouble ?

You're pregnant, not dying.  Go to class. I have the most unpredictable morning sickness. I just ask to be excused and go puke in the nearest Bush, trashcan or bathroom. It's embarrassing but I'm trying to graduate. Missing class isn't going to get you there. He was being a teacher . You're responsible for going to class and getting your work done. Around 6 wks I didn't go to school for a week because I was puking up everything including water. But my work was on time. I emailed my teachers and asked them for the work and k got it in between the time my head was in the toilet and the time I was in bed. There are plenty of ways to get your work done when you're feeling sick.

I doubt it's his rules, it's almost always the schools'. They *do* require cancer patients to have a signed paper because they need it for documentation. So asking for one over morning sickness isn't so harsh. College isn't like grade school, if you miss enough days you're basically saying you're dropping the class. Before you send that email I recommend talking to administration or student support. Being on a professors bad list is never good.

All he asked for is proof that you were actually sick (and he can do that). So you probably shouldn't take it so personally. I would definitely not email him.

I'm a medical officer, I puked everyday during my rounds every morning afternoon and evening. I puked in between seeing my patients. I sat down for 5 minutes then continue to do my rounds, do 36hrs calls without sleep. I'm a doctor but that's not an excuse for me. I didn't take any emergency leave.

So I'd say you are very lucky to have that dr note, don't email the professor he just doing his job. Happy studying and happy 9 months to you. Best of luck 😊

I always ask proof of any students who want extensions or absences excused. It's making sure that the class is equitable for everyone.
   
You should not email him. What in the world would you even say? Btw, every semester I have about one (two in a bad semester) student complaining that a piece of direct feedback or a syllabus policy that gets enforced (usually the no late work policy) is "rude." Besides getting a dose of reality, that student just ends up looking awkward and childish. Don't be that student. Get to class, or take a semester off if you can't.

Some teachers are just different. Maybe he needs the note for every absence because when he goes to your name on the roster he sees that every absence was accounted for with a Dr's note.
