How are you getting your toddler 2-3 word sentences?

We read but theyre not all that interested in reading. What are your tips?

I just talk to my toddler like he's a grown adult for the most part, I have conversations with him about anything and everything even if he's not actually listening, I explain everything he is doing or I am doing with him. I also think it just depends on the toddler. Some just do more quickly as others take their time. My toddler seems to understand just about everything I am saying and can answer me.

My first was using 2-3 word sentences by now. My second barely has 10 single words. We did/do the same things with both of them, including lots of reading (ironically my second enjoys reading more at this than my first did yet he’s the one that’s slower to talk) and talking about everything we do. Every kid develops at their own pace.

I read to my daughter nightly from when she was very young. It was our routine up until a few months ago. My son who’s 1.5 has never sat still to read through a book and listen. All he wants to do is turn the pages back and forth. He likes this one baby faces book and I try to get him to touch the touch/feel books we have which he seems to enjoy. We haven’t made it a regular thing yet but I’m hoping one day I’ll be able to read to both my kids at the same time and they’ll be able to focus and not mess around with each other then go peacefully to sleep.

My toddler understands, we speak to him like a normal person. Just like the other mom suggested we talk about everything all the time. He knows lots of words and sign but hasn't put any together yet. Our pediatrician was counting his words, animal sounds, and signs all separately and told us he is pretty advanced for language. I honestly think he is pretty average and well keep him lol.
