How long is too long?

How long is too long to be engaged? I've been engaged for over 3 years and I'm starting to feel like I'll never get married. We had set a date for 2 years after we got engaged and it didn't happen due to my so being in an accident. Now when i try to talk to him about getting married he says he doesn't want to talk about it or he wants to finish renovating the house or its just a piece of paper. What do I do?

My recommendation is to really sit down with him and explain how u feel. Tell him it's not just a paper to you. It means way more than that and you'd appreciate his understanding.. But he needs to Listen he can't just brush it off his shoulders :\

I don't believe in long engagements - too much happens in between & life goes on. After the accident it's the renovations...what will be next? Long engagements make me feel like he is just trying to keep you at bay. We got engaged in March, got married in November.

You are the one walking around with an engagement ring, while he isn't wearing any ring and is technically still single. You propose when you ready, otherwise don't bother.

Imo it really depends on the couple. My husband & I were engaged then got married at the next day. He may just wait to wait so money won't be tight if y'all are renovating y'alls house.

Ive been engaged for 2 years and will still probably be engaged for a few more years to come. He knew i wanted to wait til i was older to get married so he's ok with waiting. Although i did notice our priorities changed in what we wanted. When we first got engaged i wanted a wedding and he didnt now i really don't want one and he does. Im thinking of something small if we do have a wedding or just convincing him we can do a courthouse wedding and have a family get together afterwards. I dont want to spend too much money on a wedding.

We wanted to get things finished and save up some money, my hubby would constantly say "don't you have bridesmaids you can talk to about this stuff" when it came to picking everything even a date. He just was happy to show up on the day. Together almost 10 years now

But I don't believe there is such a thing as "too long" to be engaged. My friend, Jinnienn, has been happily engaged for like almost 10 years now. But not everyone wants to wait that long and that's alright. I know I wouldn't want to.
