Why doesn't the hospital respect pacifier choices?

Question

Each time I've given birth I've told the nurses I don't want baby using a pacifier but they act like I'm committing a crime or something. I breastfed my last baby and didn't want to use a pacifier as well. I know everyone has a personal choice regarding using one but I don't want to use one.

We had the opposite experience. Haha. They didn’t want our baby to have a pacifier.

My hospital didn't use them and made it clear they disapproved but also respected our wishes to use them and said if we wanted to give her one already while we were there then we could. I guess it just depends on your hospital?

My hospital never gave either of my babies one. I breastfed both and never had to tell them not to give them a pacifier

Yeah my hospital never even asked about that causethey are pretty pro-breastfeeding. They actually advised me to wait at least 6 weeks if I wanted to use one

My hospital was super chill about it. They left us one in the package in his crib at the hospital but nobody ever even brought it up, it was completely up to us whether to use it or not

So odd how things change. With my first baby 9 years ago the nurses were very anti pacifier because it could confuse the baby when breastfeeding. But with my second baby 3 years ago they encouraged it because studies had found it greatly decreased the risk of SIDS.

With our first we said no pacifier and one of the times they took her to the nursery they brought her back with a pacifier in her mouth and I was annoyed but the nurse insisted it was in the bassinet after they changed the linen so they assumed it was hers and put it in her mouth 🤢 my husband and I were mortified and insisted her bassinet did not have a pacifier in it when they took her and the nurse LAUGHED like it was no big deal and said "oops better take this out then" took the pacifier and left.  So with our second we said again no pacifier and my husband went everywhere our baby did to ensure something like that didnt happen again.

My daughter went straight to nicu after she was born and when I saw her for the 1st time the next day she had a pacifier in her mouth. My son never used a pacifier and I wasn’t planning on using one for my daughter and here we are almost 2 years later and she’s still hooked on her paci

With my older kids it was not an issue but with my youngest he was a preemie so they gave him one all the time after the tubed him.  Of course they gave me a hard time nursing him because they didn't want him to get too tired?!? It was not a good experience and had I not just given birth and suffering ppd so bad from the whole ordeal I wouldve told them to get stuffed from day 1

My son was starving so we all tried to but he never took so sometimes the nurses are trying to help before the milk comes in since the other option was bottle
