Hello! I'm due January 25th and honestly have never even been around a child younger than 2, let alone a newborn. I have some baby clothes my friend gave me to me and I recently bought a car seat, and I have a breast pump coming to me soon. I'll be buying more things this upcoming month. I should start stocking up on diapers/wipes but I'm not sure what kind/size to get for them.
What else do I need before my baby boy is here ?
What tips can any mom/parent give that they wish they knew their first time ?

Spit up rags, baby washes, blankets, nail clippers for babies because their nails are sharp. My babies always liked a swing too.

1. Swaddle that baby like it’s your job. Trust me. And do it a lot. Not just when they’re sleepy. And get a white noise sound machine. Newborns really like the noise. It helps them settle to sleep better. 
2. Buy a smallish pack of newborn diapers and some sensitive wipes. (I really like the huggies natural care sensitive wipes because they’re thick). Then buy probably 2 boxes of size 1 diapers. If you can go ahead and stock up other sizes, do it. But if you don’t have the money, just get that for now. Luvs diapers are my fav cheaper brand. I also like pampers swaddlers. 
3. If you’re planning to breastfeed, get a breastfeeding cover for anytime you go in public or to the doctor office. (You don’t have to cover up but I felt more comfortable covered in Public). 
4. Reverse zipper pajamas for sure. Then you don’t have to take the whole outfit off just to change the diaper. 
5. Baby play mat with toys they can hit. 
6. A place to put baby when you’re in the shower or on the couch eating a sandwich. I had the boppy lounger. 
7. Buy a couple different types of pacifiers. You never know what they’ll like.

Nail scissors and nail files for newborns! My baby loved her sound machine and still uses it at 2 years old. Swaddles that open from the bottom, and a bassinet! I didn’t stock pile on diapers, and thankfully so because my daughter was sensitive to many brands

The only brand diaper my son could do was pampers. Everything else gave him diaper rash, and Luvs leaked.
The only wipes I will ever use are “Water Wipes” brand. They are plain sterile water with I think grape extract? Anyway they are super great for sensitive butts and they have no odor like some other brands - I can’t stand the odor of pamper wipes. 🤮
I never felt comfortable breast feeding in public. I pumped and just brought bottles with me. I found the tommy tippee closer to nature bottles and the dr brown bottles to be best however in my amazon freebie box and my noobie box this time I got two MAM bottles that look like they may work. Basically if you use bottle but still want to breastfeed go for a bottle nipple that imitates the breast nipple. Same for pacifiers. My son never liked the big flat pacifiers. He only liked the thin phillips style ones.
Try to always have spares and duplicates of things. Duplicate pacifiers in case one gets dirty or your dishwasher melts it or something happens. Hell hath no fury like a child used to one item being given a different item. They like routine and change will cause meltdowns lol.
When you’re down to like 20 diapers, evaluate if they are still fitting well, is baby still in the weight range, are you having leaks or blowouts. If nothing has changed buy another box of the same size. If things have changed, go up a size. But buy your next box when you have 20 or so left (2 days worth)

All baby really needs is you and diapers. Everything else is just a luxury you may or may not need! It’s a good perspective to have.
