Maternity leave Before DD OR up to DD?

Hello all I am having a little bit of a hard time figuring out my maternity leave. I am off starting Christmas Eve all the way until 1/4/2021 my baby is due on 1/13/21. So I am wondering should I start my leave a week early or try and push it to my due date. I work from home but to be honest I am sick of my job and actually proud I have even worked this far. My job can be stressful at times !! I hate the way maternity leave is treated in the US women should be given more time and more benefits 😫leave me some comments and suggestions? Are you leaving work early if so why? Or are you working up until your due date ?

Hi! Well I’m in NYC and am currently teaching from home (suuuuuper exhausting). Due 1/11 but I feel it’s just a matter of 1-3 more weeks, doc thinks so to. We get 6-8 weeks of temp. Disability (170 a week which is BS) depending on if the birth is vaginal or c-section and then I get 12 weeks through paid family leave (66% of my income). I feel as though I cannot anymore. I struggle through my live sessions I’m soooo sleepy all the time and in pain but I’m trying to stick it out til at least Dec 30th. I want to save as much as I can before my income drastically reduces on disability and leave, but the way Christmas is set up...LOL. Best of luck to you!!

We have the same due date! I am starting my leave 1/4 only because I need to rest and get the nursery ready! I haven’t done anything with my working schedule. Also want to spend time with my first alone before baby gets here. I think it’s whatever you feel comfortable with.

I'm in the UK and I have taken some holiday days before my due date so I don't use up my maternity leave. Personally I'd work as long as possible so you have more time with baby.

I worked during my first pregnancy and did so until I gave birth. I wanted every second with my baby.

I worked as a dog groomer up until I went into labor early lol pprom at week 28-29. Delivered at 32. I took my time off and then took fmla. I cashed out my 401k and quit my job. I went to work as a vet assistant part time at 9 weeks. After a year I went back to grooming about 35 hours a week and stayed there for a year before quitting that too. Opened my own shop and did that for about 4 years but shut down when covid started up because I have lupus and everything was getting shut down anyway.
So now I’m a stay at home mom. Fyi I hate it and miss working and am going insane. I am not a stay at home mom type at all. I burned cinnamon rolls this morning ffs. My house is a disaster. Laundry is backing up. I can’t even get my nursery finished 😂 Adhd and no medication because of high risk pregnancy means literally nothing gets done in my life unless my husband does it!

I’m in the US and working until I’m due. Last year (2019) I worked until June 20, went to the hospital, baby was born the next day. This time we have break from 12/23-1/3. I’m due the 3rd so just not going back after winder break. 
We get 12 weeks fmla but my school district only pays us using our time off. I have 17 days then get FLI from the state for 6 weeks. I wouldn’t waste my leave before baby is here but that’s just me

I took my leave of absence due to an emergency cerclage placement from weeks 23-29. I’m back at work light duty. Will work until my water breaks like the first one.

I'm in Canada, my doctor just put me on sickness leave because she is concerned about my immune system and covid with my job. Baby is due Jan 19th, once he's born I'll switch to my maternity leave for 18 months

I work in a high stress demanding job as well, and it’s in child protection. There can be some ugly court hearings and tense situations. I am taking it day by day. We are all working remotely from home so I feel like when I need to step away I can. 
I think it’s important to consider your financial situation and if you can afford to take leave early. Also, consider how much time you will receive and use it wisely. So, for me, I have three weeks of available vacation and just shy of three weeks of sick pay.  I am allowed 8 weeks - so I want to spend that full 8 weeks with baby and will work as much as I can until delivery so that I can do that.
