Cleaning girls gential area after a poopy diaper??

We have just been wiping front to back on the outside. However I noticed a little poop at the top of the labia in the creases, you really have to open to clean? The hospital told us not to do that but her ped. Said just be gentle and clean only when she poops

Definitely open to clean it, just be gentle... babies are very capable of getting infections in that area too from not being wiped/cleaned properly.

Always gently open and gently wipe it out. You don't have to like really get in there, but you do need to get it out of there. If you leave it, it can cause infections. It's necessary to clean it away. 
Half the reason I'm hoping our next kiddo is a boy. I feel like diaper changes will be so much easier with a boy.

Definitely clean it, of course as gently as possible. So dangerous for babies to be left with poop near their vaginas. Could lead to a uti which any be hard to diagnose as the fussiness could easily be attributed to something else, and that can very quickly turn into a kidney infection.

I used to open and clean with water wipes and then sensitive wipes . Once she was able to bathe more frequently I just gave her a lower body dinse/ bath to make sure I didn't leave anything behind. Shes never had any issues .

I just gently clean the inside area without going deep. My baby girl has never had a negative reaction to it. And honestly if you miss a little, it will come out when she pees.
