At my hospital once you test negative you can take it off. If you test positive or refuse the test you have to wear one

Idk if I HAD to but I ended up doing it... I had the mask on already and I didn’t realize it was still on when I went to push. I went from 4 to 10cm in one hour and once they realized I was ready they were rushing to get ready and I was just trying to prepare myself, not thinking about the mask. I only pushed for 10 mins and I forgot I had it on. That’s how little it bothered me.

I’m giving birth at home because Of these insane rules. No way will I agree to wear a mask during labor.

I wore a mask when anyone was in the room. I was allowed to take it off when the nurses/midwife left the room. I was also allowed to take it off while pushing and during skin to skin. This was back in June. Testing wasn’t as available. 
Honestly, I brought one of my fabric ones an it really wasn’t bad. It actually helped keep my throat from drying out when I was vocalizing. I had such an issue when my son was born with my throat getting dry and coughing because of it. Coughing during a contraction sucks!! 😂 I didn’t have that problem with my daughter because of the mask. So really it was kind of a good thing 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m in Canada and was told I have to wear a mask the entire time we’re there, all through labour. 😭😭

My sister had her baby in July in Texas and she had to wear a mask the whole time. Even while she was pushing she had to wear one. I’ve had other friends who’ve had babies recently and I don’t think they had to wear their masks the whole time.

Yes! In Fl and asked my doc about this recently. She told me she would put the oxygen mask on me, so at least it will be bearable. But anytime someone else is in the room, masks on. No exceptions.

I think I was supposed to but they didn’t in force it and they told me I didn’t have to wear it while pushing but I didn’t wear it my whole stay at the hospital and nobody said anything

The “policy” is yes. I was told by my nurses and doctors not to worry about it, though. Neither my husband nor I wore one except in the halls and in the NICU. I developed HELLP syndrome and was really sick so even during my stay I had lost my cloth one somewhere and never bothered to dig it out. (Once I was getting a second infusion, my daughter was discharged from the NICU, I didn’t have one and no one cared.) I had tested negative anyway that morning.

From what I’m told, where I am in Northern California we wear it to the hospital, and then we get tested on check in. If we test negative we get to take it off in our room, but if we’re positive they ask that we wear it whenever someone else is in the room. They did say that my hubby doesn’t have to get tested at all, so I assume he has to wear the mask the whole time (unless we’re alone in the room).
I’m due in 8 days or less, so I’ll come update after I have baby girl 😁
