What's your take on Biden's nominations of Lloyd Austin for Defense Secretary? (info in description)

💫S

President Elect Joe Biden has nominated Lloyd Austin to be the Defense Secretary.

This is historic as he would be the first POC to fill this role.

However, there is a standard 7 year separation from the military required for the person who fills this role.

Austin only retired from the military 4 years ago after a 40 year military career. He is also on the board of directors for Raytheon, which is a part of the military industry complex. Both of these could be a conflict of interest. Another concern is that he has little experience in the civilian workforce world which is a necessity for anyone taking this position.

Waivers have been granted before in cases like this (Mattison for example)and would be necessary in this case.

On the positive he knows and understand the inner workings of our military and can sympathize with those in the service currently. He has strong relationships with high ranking military personal and a great reputation with our allies.

So, do you support this nomination or do you feel someone else should be elevated for the position?
