Should we have a three strikes and you’re out law?

Question

Listening to a podcast about a man name Richard Hootin. He was convicted on 7 different felonies for rape and assault before eventually raping and murdering a 17 year old.  The longest consecutive sentence he had was 15 years. The other sentences were only a couple of years or even just probation. There were so many times the could have had this man and saved this young girls life and other women from being rapped, yet the continuously let him go even though after every release it only took him a year or two to recommit the crime. This is not the only time I’ve heard of multiple violent offenders being released and commuting more crimes. 
I personally believe the prison system should be used for reform but obviously some people just can’t be reformed. Should we have a three strikes and you’re in for life for violent actions?

I think it’s silly to let it happen 3 times personally. If you are convicted of a violent sexual offence you should get life.

That’s been done before. The thing is the third strike or even the second didn’t have to be a high level offense it was honestly almost any. So many black and brown men got locked up behind that law and the rest of their lives were done for. Even for smaller infractions.
Let’s stop running prisons and jails like businesses and actually lock down high risk offenders like the do at the black swan prison. 
For lower level offenders that can actually be reformed send them to jails or prisons where they can learn skills and actually work on themselves. 
We have federal prisons for celebs that are much more cozier than other jails that are run down and poorly ran.

Those who rape others cannot be rehabilitated. 
Rape gives the predator a sense of power they cannot get elsewhere and they are likely always going to crave that power. They’re still going to crave that years down the road.

I’ll be honest; I don’t think extremely violent offenders can be rehabilitated. I think there is something physically lacking from their brains and they’re never going to grasp right from wrong. I truly believe there is a level morality you are born with and some people just don’t have it.

I think any violent crime should have zero tolerance. Murder rape etc should have zero leniency. Petty crimes ok- you can be rehabilitated but something so big it changes someone’s life permanently? Nope, I have no mercy on you.

Violent crimes should hve stricter penalties and more requirements for being released. It would be nice if they had more transitiinal services for inmates being released so they dont return or give uo trying to create a life. Recitivism rates are high because what job are u going to get and where are you going to live if no where accepts u due to criminal record.

It seems like it should be a no-brainer, but I'm states where this type of sentencing gets implemented, it just turns into another layer of a biased sentencing system, where poor and minority offenders get threatened with max jail time more often than any others so that prosecutors can improve their records.
I see it as an attempt to shortcut the full overhaul that's actually necessary. Not a bad idea, just not what we actually need.

No. I like a “one strike and death sentence “. If you kill some one or rape someone it should be automatic death. 
Maybe a few exceptions to the murder as I can think of a few just reasons. But literally only a few.

I think there needs to be a separation in law between the punishments for different crimes. People who steal and abuse drugs/alcohol can be rehabilitated and so I do think that those kinds of crimes could fall under a 3 strikes you’re out law, but murders and rapists? 
Theres a reason women fear men.

For violent crimes like rape it should be 1 strike. Usually these laws end up unfairly effecting people of color.
