does NIPT testing tell you gender

I declined it for my last pregnancy and I’m wondering if that is how ppl are finding out gender so early at 9 weeks???  Is this the test to look for Down syndrome also?? I have good insurance I’m also wondering if they charge a lot for it

It does. We asked for them to not tell us gender so the order on the yest asked for gender to be left off specifically but had we wanted to know we could have. Our insurance covered part of it so we ended up paying $52 after insurance

Yes but you have to let them know ahead of time that you’d like to find out gender. Otherwise they will only tell you if something is medically “abnormal” with baby. They test for some thyroid issue which only girls can have which is how they determine gender FYI.

It does but makes sure they know you want to know during the blood test I think they have to add it onto the paperwork or else they won’t mention it in your results. It tests for chromosomes abnormalities like Down syndrome and i think a couple others. ☺️

Yes, it does. My doctor specifically warned me that gender will be revealed with the NIPT and we can tell him if we want him to tell us.

Yes it does. The tech that draws your blood just has to check a box on the paperwork. For gender it is 99.8% accurate but for pre-diagnostic risk factors it has a lot of false positives. Most insurances wont cover it but its like $350 out of pocket depending on what brand of test they use. Youd have to wait until youre at least 10 weeks for the blood draw though. They wont do it earlier than that.  Ive had it done for both of my pregnancies

I think it depends when i asked the lady who was doing my blood test if it will show gender results she said no, but i have seen others post their gender results from the nipt test.
