Nexplanon removal/replacement

Lorissa

Two weeks ago on December 3 I got my second implant removed & third implant inserted! It took a little longer to get the second one out due to a bit of scar tissue around it (about 5-10 minutes, compared to under a minute with my first one lol), but no real complications. Hopefully this third one is good to me as well! 🤞

Here are some pics I took to document my healing process...

2 weeks after (today)

All soreness completely went away after about a week & a half. As for side effects, so far I’ve experienced some light-medium spotting, fatigue, cramps, slight pelvic pain, headache, and a bit of an increase in my appetite. All of which have been on & off, and manageable. These are also some of the normal side effects I’ve experienced on occasion with my previous implants as well. But, they’re especially common in the first few months while the body is adjusting to the hormones again, since over time the hormone levels slowly decrease.

Oh, and for anyone who’s confused/wondering about how long they last, my Obgyn’s office is still only prescribing them for 3 years (not 4-5), as that’s still the only official approved time frame given by the manufacturers of Nexplanon & the FDA. So, 3 years is what I’d personally stick with at this point, definitely better safe than sorry in my opinion! 😊
