When to start baby food 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m a ftm and I keep getting mixed info on when to start baby food. I’m not starting yet of course but my parents say 4 months, the in-laws said 3 and my friends say 6 months. Online is just as confusing as well. My baby is quite the hungry boy and looks to be interested as well but I don’t want to mess up his stomach. Anyone know when is the right time?

Baby has to be able to sit up, have good head control and put hand to mouth effectively before being offered food, unless advised by a paediatrician to start earlier.

There's a saying, "food before one is just for fun." Meaning you don't need to stress about it. Some will show interest early on and others couldn't care less. 
When they start to take an interest, think about these milestones: 
Between 4-6 months their digestive track will have matured enough to introduce basic "solids" like super runny baby oatmeal mixed with mostly breastmilk or formula. 
When baby can sit up on their own (you want to avoid choking). 
Finally when baby starts to show interest in food. 
Feeding can be fun! My sons first food was sweet.potato.  He took a bite then barfed it all back up. Hewent ape for breastmilk oats a few days later. Take it slow and let them explore taste and texture at their own pace!

Your pediatrician should advise you on when is the best time to start your baby on foods. 
Our doctor told us that if our baby continues to advance at the rate she is, we can start foods at 4 months. If she slows in development, we'll wait until 6 months.

4 months was the recommendation when we were kids. Now it’s 6 months, especially for breastfed babies. I waited for 6 months with my first and will again this time. There are a lot of benefits to waiting.

Ask your pediatrician. Our pediatrician said between 4-6 months depending on baby. Some are ready at 4 and some are not ready until 6. I am breastfeeding so I plan to wait until closer to 6 months.

Ask your pediatrician at their 4 month appointment. My son's pediatrician said in 2018 he was good to start eating food at 4 months if we felt comfortable because he was rolling and supporting his head well. So I started feeding him oatmeal a week or two after his appointment back then (my husband was deployed). My daughter just started rolling over and holds her head up and controlled very well. I wouldn't be surprised if they tell me at her appointment in 2 1/2 weeks that she is good to start eating oatmeal. I already have a stock pile of food for her when we can. She is also very interested in our food and tries to get her mouth on ours if we hold her at the dinner table. She screeches if she sees us eating, it's hysterical!

My sister's babies pediatrician told her when the child takes interest in your food that's when to start soft foods. You aren't supposed to give them table food period for the first year but as soon as I can give my son soft table food I'm going to, I feel it's best for his health instead of keeping it strictly on formula and baby food
