Should I stop meeting men online?

Question

I’m only asking this because a friend expressed her concerns to me and said that “online dating is weird” and that I’m “wasting my time on these guys.” She said people who are on apps are just looking for a hookup.
Even before the pandemic a majority of men I met were online, however no real viable relationships have formed from that — just short lived, hazy flings. I’ve been recently trying to meet a new man online but the few ones I did match/meet up with were total dubs. I have the belief that I’ll finally find a boyfriend after some terrible matches, but my friend & my sister have told me I’m disrespecting myself by allowing these things to happen.
What should I do?

I really think it’s hit and miss. I know many people who met their spouses through online websites. I do think some dating websites are better then others though. Regardless, it’s your life. Date how you want to date- don’t let others persuade you.

I type this all of the time here. Only patronize sites where members pay!!
Talk to guys on the phone before meeting up in person. Not just text!!
Meet up for coffee. Drive separately. Tell a friend where you are going. 
If you feel you are in a rut - stop sleeping with the guy until you feel very comfortable. 
Have fun. Dont put so much pressure on yourself. In the same regard, listen to your gut!! Dont be afraid to have high standards!

I wouldnt say online is the problem. I personally think women have no idea HOW to date properly. They do not properly vett and screen the men interested in them and enter into hell. Look up the book boundaries in dating... and also go online and look up tools and reaources on what to look for, red flags, toxic behaviors, and how to meet up for blind dates. Example meet in public, watch your drink, tell a friend where u going, dont give real telephone number and other tips to be safe.

I think they’re kinda right but not fully. Yes you can meet nice people online. But also a lot of sites, like tinder, a lot of people use for hook ups, again not all, but a lot. 
I have friends that met people & got married from online. But a lot of them used sites where you have to pay because people tend to take it more seriously & are looking for actual relationships.

My husband and I met on OkCupid...twice.  I'd paid for apps and met some men who turned out to be creepers, some are great and some are assholes, just like those you may meet through friends or in a bar.  I could tell stories for days...but I'd be lying if I didn't also tell you I'd met some really amazing men too. You'll never find the one if you stop looking. Anywhere.

Only go on sites that you have to pay a membership for. That's where most ppl go who are serious about finding a partner...not just a fling.

My best friend met her husband through bumble. She said that it and tinder definitely can be just a hook up app but that you can also meet people that want something more, you just have to be honest, go slowly sex wise (not just hop into bed with them), and be discerning.

There’s nothing wrong with meeting them from dating sites, you just need to be clear of what it is that you want. If you’re going on a date just do that date the man but don’t give it up right away. There is decent men out there looking for the same thing as you.

My husband and I are a tinder success story. I would recommend to be as consice and descriptive in your bio for whatever site you choose, at the bottom write something along the lines of " if you have read this entire post and are interested in talking please send a message with your favorite color ( or whatever topic you choose) as the message headline" that way you weed out men who just like your pics and are looking for a quick fling.
