can we talk tantrums?!

my daughter has been throwing the worst tantrums ever lately. she will kick, scream, throw herself down, wiggle herself out of my arms. it’s just terrible! I feel like all she does is pitch fits and cry anymore. She also never wants to sleep. I’m so exhausted.. I don’t know what to do anymore. I know tantrums are normal, but these are crazy.

Tantrums are the WORST! I’m a behavioral therapist and work with parents of young ones for behavior management skills. Ignoring is the most powerful tool for tantrums, but man is it hard to use sometimes. What works the best for me is just walking away to another room (assuming my kiddo is safe). Other tricks are putting in your head phones and trying to reply a movie or tv episode in your head. 
As soon as they calm down, give them attention. Whether its a hug, something to distract, a little conversation, whatever. With consistency they learn tantrums don’t reach their end goal, but they get plenty of attention when calm.
Also, praise the heck out of compliance regularly, outside of tantrums. 
Of course, these skills don’t put an end to tantrums, but do reduce the length and frequency when used constantly over time. Sending you and the little good vibes!

I am exhausted from the tantrums. Constant crying and screaming, throwing herself on the floor, turning beet red. I’m m OVER it.

It's like she got punched in the face. That's how crazy her crying outbursts are. And its usually because we tell her "no" about something or if (God forbid) she needs to get her clothes or diaper changed. Like full out screaming with big crocodile tears pouring down her face. And then she can be so easily distracted from it too. All I have to do is point to anything and say "cool" and then like the snap of a finger she stops crying and starts laughing. 
Sleep time, she does gymnastics in her crib and laughs and dances and yells for hours before she falls asleep. This started about 6ish weeks ago I think. And her naps are only like half her usual time now too 😩😩😩
