Nickname for Madeleine?

My husband and I love the name Madeleine but I am not a fan of “Maddie”. I saw that the nickname “madsie” can be for Madeleine and my husband wants to call her mads, do you think we can avoid people calling her Maddie if we call her madsie and mads?!

I think people will still give her a nickname & Maddie is the most poplar for this name. My daughter is name Melanie, we call her Mellie but other family members cal her Mel. We don’t mind it but people just like to have nicknames & whatever works for them. If you want a specific nickname then just address it to everyone so they don’t call her Maddie. I personally would think it’s rude, but it’s your kid so you make the rules 🙃

I don’t know that you’ll avoid it entirely (I’m still called “Katie” sometimes when people don’t ask and I have to correct them), but I call my swim students by whatever name they’re registered under or whatever name they request. Sometimes their requested name is entirely different from their legal name and I’d never know otherwise except for the fact that I handle billing too and come across their legal names eventually. So as long as you try and get ahead of it, you’ll probably be able to prevent most people from calling her Maddie.
But consider that SHE might want to be Maddie when she gets older. I think Della might be an alternative nickname to start with though.

Depends how much you hate Maddie.
You can just correct people every time they say Maddie when she’s a baby. Once she’s a bit older, then you don’t have much say anymore. She may very well decide she wants to be called Maddie. That’s always a risk when there’s a common nickname you don’t prefer.

Is it pronounced like Linn or line? If its lin I would say that's a nice nickname. If its line, idk..I knew a girl named adeline and she went by addy. But that's so close to maddy. 🤷‍♀️

I would just say stick to the nickname and correct people. My daughter is Lilliana and I hate Lils as the Nickname and she’s still called it. I don’t mind it now.
