Is post-secondary education for woman worth it? (I need help I’m confused)

Hi everyone! I’m a senior in high school and recently I can’t stop thinking about the fact that my life is going to be complete cycle. Let me elaborate; after high school I go to college and spend my 20s studying. I will possibly get married in my 30s and have kids then, but the second I have a kid I have to leave my job until my kids are old enough to take care of themselves. By then it’ll be almost time for my retirement. All my dreams of becoming a successful woman in this world are gone! And I’m filled with nothing but regret...that’s not what I want. My greatest fear is regretting my life choices. And honestly looking at this right now, is it worth it for me to spend all that energy trying to master something when in the end it’s not going to matter? I know for sure I have a greater purpose in life, and right now I’m lost. The women in my life have all become stay at home mothers, including my own mom. And it honestly throws me off when I’m thinking of the future because I want to be the exact opposite. But having a family really matters to me. I want to find my purpose in this life and fulfill it, and I also want a family. I’m afraid I’ll end up giving up one thing for another. So if you have a woman figure in your life who is a working mom with amazing children, or if you’re a working mom yourself, please give me your 2 cents on this topic because I really need the guidance.

It's possible to have a career and children at the same time... it doesn't have to be all or nothing. Just because you have children doesn't mean you have to give up your career and your life. You just have to learn how to balance both.

Huge numbers of women have thriving careers while being mothers. My career is a huge part of my identity. So is being a mom. I work full time and have two kids - 2.5yr and 5mo. I worked hard to earn my Master’s degree, become respected by my colleagues, and be trusted with leadership roles. Our kids attend daycare with an incredible caregiver we trust. When I’m at work, I work. I don’t waste any time. Even when I’m pumping, I’m working. Then when I’m at home, I’m with my family. I rarely bring work home and if I do, I wait until the kids are in bed to do it. It’s about finding a balance and a routine that works for you and your family.

I went to college later, am married, and have a 1 year old. My husband and I both work full time and have fulfilling careers. I don’t feel like I gave up anything. I know I would not be happy as a stay at home mom.

I didn’t go to college, I became an apprentice in the laborers union at 19, was a journeyman at  22, 24 now but I don’t have any full time kids yet. I have a bonus daughter who only gets to come over every other weekend and a couple days during the opposite weeks:( My husband and I have decided we won’t try to have another kid for a year or two, I’ll stay home with them until they’re school aged and then I’ll go back to my career😊 it doesn’t have to be all or nothing

Why does it have to be like that? I have a few degrees beyond my masters, work full time, have a kid, and am contemplating my doctorate.

Of course it's worth it. What else are you gonna do with yourself during that time?
The thing is that life is just unpredictable and you don't really know whats gonna happen 10, 20 years down the track. Work for your future obviously but don't forget to make your current life satisfying. It sounds like you are career driven so you should pursue that and see where it takes you! And having kids doesn't mean you never get to work again. Plenty of mums continue to work when their kids are a little older. I think you are worrying too much xx

Please don’t think you only have one road to take. I graduated with my bachelors degree right before I got pregnant with my son, then 3 years later I had my daughter and I was a stay at home mom for a bit. I then started a great job at a high school and am going for my masters degree while being a working mom to a 5 and 8 year old. I am 30 years old and am still doing my thing no matter what anyone else! My next step is to obtain a house and I will go for it! Keep your head up hun.
