My daughter tries to feed herself but usually drops the food in her lap before she gets her hand close enough to her mouth. Just takes time and motivation. My husband hates when she gets messy lol
Feed themselves ???
So.. how do you get them to feed themselves? We’ve been trying solids ( reg food as well as purées) he showed interest at like 4.5 months. While I know food before 1 is just for fun, it would be nice if he would try one bite on his own. I’ve been eating with him/ off his tray. He knows it’s food. He has the hand eye to do it. Just lazy near as I can tell. Any tricks??

Try picking up the piece and putting in his hand. It should strike his curiosity and put it in his mouth. If not, try using a small fork or spoon and seeing if he'll grab it from you.

Ah gotcha. Maybe try making noises when you eat and LO will copy? Like the airplane game but on yourself lol

He picks up the pieces as well as utensils just fine. Dexterity is not the issue. He just won’t put it in his mouth.
