Should violence be tolerated?

Should violence from a male partner to a female partner ever be tolerated?

I know that society tells us that if there's the hint of physical abuse, we should leave.

But is that realistic?

To clarify, my partner has never hit me or anything like that, but pushed me up against a wall, and grabbed me very hard by the arms a few times.
