How to deal with varying opinions on Baby Name Spelling?

My second daughter is due in July. We have known for a while that we would name her Emily. Initially that was the spelling I wanted too but my husband wanted Emilee, to match our oldest daughter, Aubree. I am starting to like that spelling more and more but my mom and sister have made comments like “please don’t do a dumb spelling like Emilee or something”. So now I’m worried they are going to judge me forever. I am kicking myself for telling them the name before we had nailed down the spelling, but like I said, initially that’s how I wanted the spelling, Emily. 
A big part of me doesn’t care what they think because it’s my baby and I can name her whatever I want. But I also don’t feel like dealing with negative comments forever. 
What should I do?

You do you girl. I think it’s pretty and unique, but at least people can pronounce it. 
The one downside would be that I could see people spelling her name wrong all the time.

Eh, I get that some names can be looked at weird but at the end of the day, a well taken care of baby is what's important and less the spelling of their name. 
This is a decision for you and your husband to make for your little family, do what you guys see fit. Everyone is allowed their own opinion but it doesn't have to dictate your own. ☺

If you guys like it, it definitely shouldn’t matter what anyone else thinks but I understand where you’re coming from! I have a friend who named her daughter Emma-Lee, they call her “Emma” or “emma-Lee” sounds like Emily. But either way, they’re all cute and you guys should do what you want to do.

So my daughters name is Maesyn and one day at church someone came up to me cuz they saw her name tag and was like “oh that’s how you spell it, she’ll have to spell her name for the rest of her life” funny enough her name was Amie. 🤦🏻‍♀️ my name is Brooke and I still have to spell it to people. I think really that’s with any name these days. I think it’s such a cool idea to match with your daughters name. If you guys love it then go for it.
You just have to be ok with correcting people sometimes or dealing with the incorrdct spelling. When my daughter was an infant we had a lot of dr appointments and when I said her name everyone thought I was saying Mason until I spelt it, I just got used to spelling it to people

Typically I don’t like when people change up spellings just to be unique, but I actually don’t mind that spelling and think it’s prettier. There are the obvious things to keep in mind, like when you opt for a non-traditional spelling, she will most likely have her name spelled wrong regularly or will constantly be needing to spell it for people. And people are going to have opinions no matter what you do, so just tell them to keep them to themselves lol.

I think if you like Emilee then you should use that spelling regardless of what they think. I like that the spellings match as well. Oddly enough one of my daughter has a uniquely spelled name and the other has a regularly spelled one and people always ask why I didn’t spell them both in a unique way lol

Sometimes you just have to tell people to “get over it” (with a smile). I like both spellings personally. Currently in the same boat with trying to figure out which spelling to use for one of our possible names. I like to hear other’s opinions but some people get too serious about it lol.

Spell it how you want. Growing up, I was upset I couldn’t find my name on anything because it was “Ashlee” and not the common “Ashley”. As I got older, like high school, I was thankful that my name was different. There were like 10 Ashley’s in my grade, but I was the only different one and I grew to love it.
