Am I good?

Question

So I'm still pretty new to the pill. I'm on my first period with it. And I will start taking the hormonal pills of the second pack tonight. 
So my period will have been for 6 days (I shortened it slightly) I'm spending the night at my boyfriends this Sunday and we're going to have sex. I don't need to wait to get through 7 hormonal pills again to be safe do i? 
And why is it that if you miss one pill during the pack you have to wait 7 days to be safe again but not after breaking for 7 days for your period ?

You will still be protected as long as you have taken all your pills correctly. The reason you are protected during the break is because you have taken 21 daily pills immediately before. That's the magic number: 21. Any fewer than that, and a missed pill gives your body permission to ovulate.  This article explains it:

No you don't need to wait you're good to go! Although usually I want until my period is over to start taking the hormone pills again
