My poodle had a huge carcinoma removed from the back of her ear today and I'm wanting to know should she sleep with the cone on? The area is a bit itchy and I'm worried she'll scratch in the night and rip open her stitches. Because it was so big the site is big (the vet told me to leave it when she saw him in October because she's already 11 years old and at the time wasn't worth risking the surgery, but it doubled in size in a very short amount of time and was oozing so I took her today.

Does she sleep with it on? It's an older fashioned plastic one.

I've cut up a sock and put that around her neck (she's a small doggy and it's a stretched out sock), and then I wrapped the bottom of the cone in the sock so the really hard plastic parts are not rubbing up against her skin all night. I've also made sure I can fit two fingers under her cone, and she is sleeping with me as normal so hopefully she'll be comfortable enough. I can see the stitches keep poking the back of her ear, hopefully the sock will alleviate that.
