Breastfeeding mama’s: Are you getting the Covid vaccine?

Question

I am a teacher and my school district has decided to keep students virtual until teachers are able to get vaccinated, but I am concerned because there is zero research on the vaccine with pregnancy/breastfeeding.

I’m still nursing my baby and got the vaccine on Tuesday. I have a strong science background and am familiar with the type of vaccine Moderna and Pfizer put out. I’ll provide some information just in case it’s useful to some. This particular type of vaccine is not stable enough to linger in the body without our body destroying it after some time or it degrading. It’s basically enough time to produce a immune response needed to start making antibodies (which stave off future infections, though research on how long this last is still ongoing). So I felt the benefits far outweigh the risks of getting COVID. In my opinion the chance of getting Covid and dying is many times greater than the risk of dying from the vaccine. 
Though I understand other’s worries about potential long term side effects so I’m not trying to push the vaccine on anyone.

I can tell you for the “not enough research” you def don’t want your baby to end up with covid... my 4 month old ended up getting it... It has not been easy for her or us ... take the damn vaccine

this is such a good question. i’m also a teacher going through the same thing. i also saw this article that said not only is there not enough research for pregnant and breastfeeding moms but also to be cautious if trying to get pregnant within 3 months of getting the vaccine. 🤔 i plan on breastfeeding until this baby is about 1 year old and then i may be ready to try for baby #2. will i ever get the vaccine?! i’m a worrier like you.

I talked to my pediatrician about it because I work at the hospital and most of my co workers are getting it but I’m not sure. My pedi said my concerns are valid. Although they think it’s safe they can’t promise you 100 percent that it is safe and nothing will go wrong. He said his wife and him took it but they still had all the concerns I brought up. He told me if something went wrong (ie: with baby, long term effects, infertility etc) and I had to live with the regret or worried constantly about it then it’s not worth taking. But if I wouldn’t worry or regret it if something went wrong then to take it. Well I’m a worrier so it’s a no from me until we get more of a sure answer.

I have decided to get the shot. I'm in the nursing field and as of right now I have not been exposed. But it's a strong possibility that I can get it. So I have decided it's best to try and protect my family by getting it and just hope and pray nothing goes wrong. 🤷‍♀️🙏🤞
