Which one are you doing till you go to the hospital?

For those of you who don’t know: example for the 511 rule is contractions every 5 minutes, for 1 minute, for a whole hour. Same with 4 but four minutes obviously. I personally want to labor at home as much as possible so I’m gonna shoot for the 311 but I’m worried that might be too late for an epidural??? I’ve only had an emergency c section, but shooting for a VBAC this time.

With this baby I’m waiting as long as possible lol when my contractions were five minutes apart they were very tolerable and I was functioning as normal. I’m waiting until it’s unbearable so I don’t have to get checked over and over and spend all my time at the hospital.

My contractions were always pretty much 5 minutes apart and didn’t get closer together until the very very end.
I had contractions on and off at home for 3 days and when they would start they were 5 minutes apart and intense, then they would stop for hours and come back again.

I just had a successful VBAC in Nov. I was told to go in as soon as labor started. They wanted to place an epidural just in case of rupture. They have a very limited amount of time if a rupture happens to save both of you. 
As for the 511 rule or any other I've personally never done any. 
Our 1st I had gbs and my water broke so I went in right away. Had to deliver within 18 hours of my water breaking.
Our 2nd I had 1 contraction every 30 minutes for an hour before I called to tell them I was going to head in. Got to the hospital 3 hrs after the 1st contraction. He was born less than 5 hours later.
Our 3rd was a c section for breech.
Our 4th I had the lightest contractions for 3 hours. Every 2-3 minutes but only 15ish seconds and no pain at all. Had my bloody show and went straight in. Got to the hospital at 9:30 am. The anesthesiologist hardly made it in time. He got there to place the epidural at 11:30 am and she was born at 12:18 pm.

It doesn’t always work. With my last birth my contractions were sometimes 3, sometimes 6-7 minutes apart, sometimes more and they told me it wasn’t time yet when I called. I was in so much pain though that they agreed to see me and give me some pain medicine so I could sleep. When I got in I was almost 7 cm dilated already. 🤷‍♀️ Expecting my second now, not sure what to do expect listen to ny body.

If you're having a vbac, they want you going to the hospital right away when labor starts and not labor much at home. They need to monitor you more closely than a regular vaginal birth. I was told to go in right away for vbac

I was waiting for 5 minutes apart to leave. However, I went from 6 minutes apart all of a sudden down to 2 1/2 minutes apart. We drove to the hospital 35 minutes away and the baby arrived before I could even get into the delivery bed.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to do 511 because I’ll be 2 hours from the hospital that I’ll be delivering at but going to consult with my OB to see what she suggests as well though.

For my first two babies I did the 511 rule because I was forty minutes from the hospital. The car ride was sooooo uncomfortable. This baby is a home birth!

I did the 311 rule with my first and when we got to the hospital I was 6cm so plenty of time for the epidural. Every labor is different though so I would check with your doctor on what they recommend.
