Can early labour feel like gas cramps?

I know it’s a random question and probably stupid to ask, but I’m 40+2 weeks now and last night when I got into bed I started feeling gas pains/cramps so I figured I must have gas. I went to the bathroom (TMI) and relieved myself and everything but I’m still getting them every now and then and feeling them a little in my lower back too. I don’t think I have any trapped gas or wind and I don’t need to poo so I’m wondering if it can be a sign of early labour and/or if anyone has had similar?

I would compare labor to menstrual cramps that come frequently without stopping when you change position or use the restroom. Time the pains you get. When I started timing my contractions, they were 15 minutes apart almost on the dot and a few seconds long.

It’s gas. You know the difference. This actually happened to me too. In the last weeks I was pregnant

Yes they can! Only difference is that contractions are consistent. I passed off early contractions as gas and needing to poop my last 2 labors til I thought to time them.

In the first few hours of labor, I thought it was just gas. It was not until my water broke I realized it was not. It felt like gas pains on the top part of my uterus just under my ribs.
