Hi everyone, I've been considering dying my hair purple. Its something I've always wanted to do and since I'm finally older my parents are more likely to be ok with me doing it.

I want something similar to this but im not at all sure what to call it. Is it tinting? Is it dyeing? Is it highlights? I really don't know much about hair at all. At the moment I think my hair is pretty damaged since I used a box lightener back in March and got a failed perm treatment in October. I'm also considering just doing a big chop since my hair is hip length and has grown out quite a bit since I lightened it and permed it. If anyone has any advice I'd REALLY appreciate it.
