Does it hurt??

For those of you that have had your wisdom teeth pulled out while awake, does the numbing shot hurt??? 
I am terrified of the dentist and needles so I’m freaking out about my teeth being pulled tomorrow...

I honestly can’t imagine having my wisdom teeth out while awake. The worst part is afterwards though especially if you get dry sockets.

The only part that hurt me was the needles to numb me.
The extraction just felt a little odd with no pain... but jeez once I started to get my feeling back I was in pain for a few days. Nothing pain killers cant sort, though.

Ask for hurricane gel. Some dentist will use it anyway without asking, but it’s a numbing gel they usually put on a qtip and put where they will put the shot, and let it sit for a few mins. This helps the numbing shot be less painful. Also, I always try to remember that if I do feel the shot, it will only be for a second or two bc as it hurts, it’s delivering a medication to numb as well 😂 idk why but that makes me feel better and be able to keep a better grip on my anxiety when I do have to go to the dentist. I’ve had all four wisdom teeth cut out, but was sedated to where I basically slept most of the time. Oh, and there’s also nothing wrong with explaining to the dentist up front that you are anxious. Good ones, will help you feel comfortable, explain to you what they are doing, how close they are to finishing, give you a heads up when you will feel pressure, etc. even wouldn’t be a bad idea to call and ask them to prescribe you something to help you relax before coming. I know dentist offices that offer that as well. I haaaate the dentist. But have learned things to try to help me get through it. Lastly, One thing I wish I would have known prior to my wisdom teeth removal, was to take a stool softener while I was taking the pain medication afterwards. LOL you may not need for it for more than a day or so but Mine were impacted and had to be cut out with stitches and all that jazz. And they did all 4 of them at once LOL! The pinches from the needle are the worst part for me. They should numb the gum with jelly first tho so not as bad as u probably fear. Then you sit til you cant feel anything but pressure. They will give you prescriptions after and just stay on it for at least 2 days, but i reccomend 30min-1 hr ahead of what it says for each dose. Like every 4 hours, I'll take every 3.5 hours. 8 hours, I take every 7. You do not want any meds to wear off. Then chill! 😊

It hurts more afterwards. I took Vicodin around the clock for the first 2 days. Then about 1 week later finally able to eat solid food without crying. Then it was all over

I had to be rushed to emergency in the middle of having my wisdom teeth removed because it went so badly, got dry socket twice afterwards. Pain in your face is the absolute worst I swear I would rather give birth than go through that again!

Best advice I had was to drink pineapple juice the day before as it is a natural antiseptic 🤷🏼‍♀️ I have no idea of it is actually true or an old wives tale but I am such a baby with pain and I was totally fine after getting my wisdom teeth out.

I was awake. They put me on gas and used the numbing needles. I didn't feel a thing! It just felt like tugging- but no pain. 
Kind of like somebody was taking my arm and leading me around, except in my mouth lol.

Not really. When they sit you down and set you up, just close your eyes and take deep breaths. Its a big needle but just so it can reach so far back in your mouth. Its just a prick.
