Can a marriage sustain a husband telling his wife he’s no longer physically attracted to her?

Just got through catching up with on old friend who I haven’t spoken to in a minute. Shes been having relationship issues with her husband this past year and told me her husband told her point blank that he’s not attracted to her anymore, that she’s gained too much weight.
I’m so devastated for her, and she’s been crushed ever since. I want to offer her words of encouragement, but I don’t know what to say. While I know what I would say and do from a single woman’s perspective, I also understand the fact that marriage is complex and not so black and white.
Is this something that you think a marriage can come back from or would it be over in your eyes?

It depends on how he said it.  Everyone attractions are different but you can't be rude about it.  Let's say u gain 50 plus pounds.  Then he can be like baby you are beautiful and I love you but I'm not sexual attracted right now but please we both can work on ourselves.  Let's get healthy together.  Then yeah that's more positive.  But your fat and I'm unattracted hell no.  You need to be supportive and encourage a person if they got out of shape.  Don't be harsh about and don't stop showing affection.  Man have to realize their bodies are not perfect either.

I think it will get worse before/if it gets better,  him admitting that is just going to cause insecurity for the wife

I would lose the feeling of security my marriage gives me.  If my husband no longer found me attractive I would withdraw from the marriage. I would try to get myself back but I would also most likely no longer feel the love for him I once had.

Her options are leaving her husband, losing weight, working on her self inside and out. If she wants to relationship to last either he’s gonna have to get over it and love her for who she is, or they can work at it together. Those are basically her options. You could say look I’m here for you if you do wanna lose weight, I’ll be your partner take walks together, grocery shop together meal prep together that kind of stuff. I’m here to listen, shoulder to cry on, be her friend that’s all that you really can do￼

For me the marriage would be over. A man is supposed to love you through all seasons and stages of your life. If he can’t love every inch of her now he doesn’t deserve her at her best.

If a marriage dissolves to the point that one partner can cite something like that then in my opinion the marriage is too far gone and although it "could" be saved, it should not be saved. 
Our bodies, appearance and mentality changes as we age. None of us will look the same 10, 20, 30 years from now. 
The whole idea of finding a partner who loves us to our core is that they are blinded by the unkind way time treats our bodies. The sagging and wrinkles, the stretch marks and scars from errant surgeries we've had. Our partners love for us turn those imperfections from something negative to a positive roadmap of the lives we've spent together. 
A deep scar on the forehead will remind a man of the time she fell from the ladder while trying to change the lightbulb. He won't look at it as an imperfection but recall how lucky he was that she didnt get a concussion. 
The csection scar ripped they her abdomen wont be a source of scorn but will remind him of how lucky he was to have his children in his arms.
The stretch marks on her breasts wont turn him off but remind him of when his babies were small and nursing. How amazing her body was to be able to that.
The sagging belly doesn't repulse but rather reminds him of all the home cooked meals she poured her heart and soul into for his family.
Love sees not the imperfection, but rather, the journey that life has been.
