Have you ever personally met someone with tourette syndrome in real life?

I've never met someone personally in real life who has tourettes but I have seen people online and in movies who have them. 
Yesterday I watched a movie called "Front of the Class" which is about a man who has tourettes, and I thought it was a great movie! I definitely recommend watching it if you haven't already.

I know one person with it. But when I met her and hung out with her several times, I didn’t even know. When she told me, I was shocked. Her tics were very mild. Almost unnoticeable.

My sister's boyfriend has it, but mildly. My brother has actually been developing ticks as well. He's 17. He's going to a neurologist to get a diagnosis.

I’ve had two friends with Tourette’s and my cousins boyfriend... two friends- you would never know. My cousins boyfriend was far more intense (though I believe he had some mental issues as well) but it still wasn’t what you see on tv. Only thing they all shared in common was hard blinking.

The media shows people with Tourette's in the most ridiculous ways. Like yes lots of people have lots of verbal and physical tics that can effect their life a lot but most of the time its Mild to moderate. Like every illness it's on a spectrum of severity and different symptoms and people rely too heavily on the media to make judgements. My boyfriend has Tourette's and it used to get pretty bad when he was younger and it's pretty mild now. Some would think maybe he can control it now but that's not how that works you can just not do it, it's like an itch you just do it as my boyfriend has put it. Most of the time its painful if they dont do it and rarely people ever do something and say it was their Tourette's when it wasnt. Over the years I've noticed when he has ticks and whenever they act up I try to soothe him somehow because they usually happened when hes stressed about something. Its usually a head shake (he used to get a bad one where he would shake his head hard a lot when he had long hair when he was little) or a small grunt, he'll clench his abs, flick his wrists, blinking a certain way. Sorry if it seemed like I was mad I just get frustrated when I talk about this subject because of the judgement and assumptions i see because of the media. I'm not mad at you I'm actually quite glad you asked.
