I do a mixture, I have a back, sack and crack wax every so often and in between, I shave.

I tried nair (for men) but the smell was pretty awful and as a whole, the product was pretty ineffective.

Epilator. All the lasting results of waxing without accidentally gluing yourself to anything. It's a touch more punishing, but the convenience of doing it at home and at such a minimal cost I'd worth it.
