It’s kind of a long story but basically my mom has been smoking 3 packs of cigarettes a DAY since she was a teen. She’s about 56, almost 57 sooooo a long ass time.

When I was 16, my mom got rushed to the hospital because she couldn’t breath and they figured out she has copd.

She was in very bad condition and had to be on oxygen for a few days and they almost didn’t let her leave the hospital without an oxygen tank.... they only agreed if she was able to walk up and down the hallway (however many times) without her oxygen level dropping a certain amount.

Long story short, after a few days, she got released from the hospital and made a promise to stop smoking

A little back story: her mom (my grandma) also has copd from smoking and she died from it when I was 6

This happened when I was 16 like I said, so it has been almost 7 years...in those 7 years she never stopped smoking

The day after Christmas in 2020, she was rushed to the hospital again, because she couldn’t breath. They got her breathing under control and did a Covid test thinking that’s what had to be wrong... it came back negative so they ran more tests and it turned out that there was a valve to her heart that was completely not working.

She had to be in the hospital for 6 days to get everything under control and now she is waiting for surgery

She is getting open heart surgery and has to get part of a cows heart.... her surgery was scheduled for this week, the 25th, however, she got a stomach bug the day before and it is now moved to February 2nd.

To be honest, to say I’m scared is an understatement!!! My dads mother got open heart surgery a little over a year ago and because of a complication, she bled out and almost died.

And with my mom having copd, there’s probably a big chance of there being complications.

I seriously am so scared. I don’t know if I need someone to be honest with me and just be like, yeah I mean there’s a chance she could die... or if I need someone to lie to me and tell me she will be fine.

I’m a nervous wreck!!
