Generational Family Business vs New Minority Business
So I've been looking for a company to put a new roof on my house. Despite the vast majority of work crews being minorities, every local company seems to be owned and run by white men. The most popular (best ratings/most recommended) are ones where they have a nice long story on their website detailing how Great Great Grandaddy Prescott something or other started a construction business and how it's now run by whatever grandson. Even the new guys here (all white) tout family connections in the business. Yes, I am in the south.
So, I'm just curious if you guys find that type of story for a business compelling or objectionable. Would you be more likely to use a generational company than a new company? What about a new company owned/managed by minorities/women?
Also I'd like to hear thoughts on why there might be such a dearth of successful minority/women owned businesses in this sector and how that can be changed.
